Since its founding in 1999 in Ireland, a pioneering company has been at the forefront of the environmental monitoring industry. This visionary firm established crucial regulations and created a centralized data hub to monitor habitable environments for endangered species worldwide, collaborating closely with global environmental organizations. Beyond animal welfare, they champion the rights and safety of workers exposed to specific environmental hazards—including air, noise, light, radioactive, and water pollution.
Initially, their sophisticated sensor systems, designed to monitor various pollution parameters, were deployed primarily indoors, relying on stable mains power. While effective, this reliance on wall outlets presented a significant limitation: it restricted their crucial work to stationary, indoor settings.
By 2023, the landscape had changed. The Irish firm recognized a growing need for wireless, portable equipment for crucial outdoor applications. These uses included:
Environmental Protection Bureaus: Conducting targeted, short-period environmental testing in specific, often remote, areas.

The existing indoor solution was unsuitable for this demanding field work. They needed a reliable, high-capacity, and extremely durable portable power supply to enable their system’s transition to the outdoors. That’s when they turned to PKCELL for a customized solution.
PKCELL’s engineering team collaborated closely with the customer to address the unique challenges of outdoor field deployment.
The power requirements demanded a large-capacity battery pack. A simple backpack design was impractical. PKCELL’s technical team innovatively designed the large power supply into a wheeled suitcase format. This simple yet crucial design change instantly solved the portability challenge, ensuring the heavy-duty power supply could be easily transported across varied terrains by a single worker.
Fieldwork means exposure to the elements—rain, mud, and harsh conditions. The customer’s requirement was clear: the power supply must not get wet. PKCELL took charge of the entire casing process, including design, mold opening, and rigorous waterproof testing. The resulting custom enclosure achieved an industry-leading IP68 rating, confirming it is completely dust-tight and capable of continuous immersion in water, far exceeding the customer’s durability requirements.
To expand the operating time and support environments where multiple sensors consume power quickly, PKCELL integrated a smart solution: an MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) controller into the power supply.
This ingenious feature allows workers to connect an optional solar panel to the power pack when it’s not in use or during downtime, enabling efficient harvesting and storage of solar energy. This extends the field-work duration significantly, offering true off-grid autonomy and sustainability.
The new outdoor systems, powered by the customized PKCELL battery packs, were first introduced to the challenging Northern European market, where the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
The Irish company is now partnering with numerous labor unions and is actively being evaluated by government organizations across the region. Their ambitious goal is to expand across Europe and North America within two years, utilizing PKCELL’s reliable, customized power solutions to contribute significantly to the well-being of workers and the vital cause of animal welfare worldwide.
